Meta unveiled the $1,299 Meta VR Glasses, a mixed reality device that is not a headset but a portable, glasses-like form factor weighing under 100 grams. The device relies on a tethered puck (about 300 grams) for processing, which can be clipped to a pocket but emits noticeable heat. Featuring four cameras for hand tracking and passthrough, pancake lenses with integrated eye tracking, and optional prescription inserts, the glasses enable controller-free interaction via thumb-index taps and finger swipes.

Despite being thicker and less transparent than traditional glasses, they feel secure and lightweight during use. Karissa Bell of Engadget noted the intuitive gesture system, reminiscent of Apple Vision Pro, and praised the freedom from head straps and facial weight. While long-term comfort remains untested, the device represents a new era for Meta’s VR ambitions, blending portability with advanced input methods.
