Samsung is ending its long-standing One Drive integration on September 30 and adding direct Google Photos backup to Samsung Gallery. Starting with Gallery app update 15.9.01.7, users can tap Menu > Settings > Sync photos and videos and connect a personal Google account.

The feature is rolling out now, as Ice Universe reported on X. It lets Galaxy users back up photos and videos without leaving Samsung Gallery. Selective syncing covers local folders such as Camera, Screenshots, or Downloads, and users can disable uploads from the main camera roll.

The change follows the end of Samsung’s more than decade-long partnership with Microsoft. Google Photos is a natural fit for many Galaxy owners already using a Google account on their phone.

Sync photos and videos requires Android 13 or later, a compatible Samsung device, and a personal Google account. Synced albums appear in read-only mode and won’t make Samsung Gallery a full Google Photos browser. Users can turn off sync under Samsung Gallery > Menu > Settings; existing backups remain in Google Photos.
