Apple’s long-awaited smart home hub, codenamed J490, is set to launch on October 13. The device features a 6-inch display and a design inspired by the iconic iMac G4. It will launch alongside a HomePod mini update with new colors and a new Apple TV 4K with Siri AI support.

The hub combines elements of iOS, tvOS, and watchOS and centers around Siri AI. The device is expected to include a speaker to enable it to act as a HomePod as well as a smart home control panel. It will be available in a tabletop version and a second version intended to be mounted on a wall.

Apple Inc. plans this launch under CEO John Ternus, marking a critical product expansion into the smart-home market. A previous Bloomberg report had only said the device was expected to launch "as soon as October." Daring Fireball suggested that iPhone Duo review models would be handed to tech writers on October 13 or 14, potentially combining the events. The upcoming device aims to be a pivotal part of Apple's strategy under new leadership.
