Apple has confirmed iOS 26.5 will bring end-to-end encryption to RCS messaging in its Messages app, marking a significant improvement for cross-platform communication. The update introduces iMessage-style features to iPhone-Android conversations, addressing a long-standing limitation in green bubble messaging. Apple plans to list supported carriers on its website when the feature rolls out across devices.

The encrypted RCS functionality was present in iOS 26.5 beta but had been removed during iOS 26.4's development cycle. Unlike previous iterations, Apple offered no warnings about removing the feature this time, suggesting the company intended to include it in the final release. Despite being labeled beta, the end-to-end encryption will be available in the shipping version of iOS 26.5.
