Taylor Farms is recalling salad mixes and other products containing romaine and iceberg lettuce after the produce was linked to an outbreak of cyclosporiasis, an intestinal illness caused by the parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis. The company, which grows produce in more than 12 states, Mexico, and Canada, is voluntarily removing the affected products from store shelves and food service establishments nationwide.

Federal health officials have reported at least 15 cases of cyclosporiasis in New York and other states, with some of the contaminated lettuce suspected of having been supplied to Taco Bell restaurants. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are investigating the outbreak, working to identify the source of contamination.

Taylor Farms stated that the recall is a precautionary measure and that no other Taylor Farms products are affected. Consumers who have purchased the recalled products are advised to discard them or return them to the place of purchase for a refund. Symptoms of cyclosporiasis include diarrhea, loss of appetite, weight loss, stomach cramps, bloating, gas, nausea, and fatigue. Some people may experience vomiting. The illness is treated with a course of antibiotics.
