India's Shapoorji Pallonji Group, led by chairman Shapoorji Pallonji Mistry, expressed willingness to cooperate with Tata Sons Pvt. on a potential stock listing, framing it as an opportunity for reconciliation after years of tension between the two historic business families. The move follows the Reserve Bank of India's refusal to exempt Tata Sons from listing rules after classifying it as an upper-layer non-bank financial company. Tata Sons' board subsequently decided to pursue a listing and extend its chairman's term by five years, despite opposition from founding-family patriarch Noel Tata, who warned a listing would "destroy its character." Tata Trusts, which owns 66% of Tata Sons, had proposed a share buyout generating at least 250 billion rupees ($2.6 billion) for the debt-heavy SP Group, which holds an 18.4% stake.

Mistry emphasized that the next generation should inherit a "legacy of cooperation, mutual respect and joint nation building" rather than division.
