Alexandra Eala has made history by becoming the first Filipino to win a WTA singles title, defeating top seed Jessica Pegula in a rain-delayed Washington Open final. The match, postponed from Sunday to Monday due to inclement weather, saw Pegula take the first set 6-4.

Play was halted on Sunday with Eala leading 2-1 in the second set. Upon resumption on Monday, Eala staged a comeback, winning the second set 6-4 and then dominating the decider with a 6-0 victory. This marked a significant career milestone for the 21-year-old.

Eala, who will rise to a career-high 20th in the world rankings, extended her winning streak against top-10 opponents to five matches. Pegula, a two-time former champion of the event, acknowledged Eala as "the future of the tour."
