NHL Injury & Prospect Movement
The Montreal Canadiens suffered a setback when forward Kirby Dach sustained an upper-body injury following a high hit from Anaheim's Jeffrey Viel during Sunday night's contest, raising immediate concerns over his availability. Contrasting this immediate worry, the Washington Capitals secured a long-term asset, signing defenseman Cole Hutson to a three-year entry-level contract immediately after his Boston University season concluded in the Hockey East tournament Saturday. These movements occur while the Anaheim Ducks face long odds in their pursuit of the Pacific Division title, according to recent playoff projection models assessing the tight standings.
