NL East Dominance & Slumps
The Atlanta Braves continue surging as standout performances from lefty sluggers Matt Olson and Drake Baldwin fuel their commanding lead atop the NL East standings, presenting a stark contrast to the struggles facing Shohei Ohtani. The Dodgers are granting Ohtani extra time off, hoping the respite helps the superstar hitter reset his mechanics from one of his most significant early-season slumps, though the team is hoping the layoff is a temporary fix.
Pitching Highlights & Near Misses
In Pittsburgh, Pirates rookie sensation Paul Skenes nearly authored another masterpiece but saw his no-hit bid end in the seventh inning Tuesday night against the Rockies when Mickey Moniak delivered a clean single. Skenes ultimately secured the win, but the near no-hitter provided the evening's major pitching storyline, overshadowing the offensive woes being experienced elsewhere in the league by top stars.
