MLB Walk-Off Thrills & Oddities
The National League slate delivered late-game drama as the Chicago Mets rallied behind Luis Robert Jr.'s walk-off three-run blast in the bottom of the 11th inning, securing a 4-2 victory over the Pirates. That contest followed an even more dramatic finish in Atlanta where the Braves stormed back by plating six runs in the ninth inning to overcome a 2-0 deficit, culminating in Dominic Smith's grand slam for a 6-2 win over the Royals. Smith's triumphant moment was deeply personal, occurring just days after the passing of his mother, which visibly affected him during the celebration in his Braves debut. Meanwhile, out in the American League, an unusual ending saw Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman tagged out playfully after a defensive lapse, as Arizona's Ketel Marte ended the second inning by applying the tag with a hug after Freeman walked toward him with nowhere left to advance.
