VXE, a sub-brand of ATK Gear, has launched the Dragonfly R1S gaming mouse, a 55g wireless model priced at just $18.99. This latest addition to the Dragonfly R1 series features a lightweight design, tri-mode connectivity including NearLink—a standard introduced by Huawei in 2024—and Bluetooth 5.2, offering a versatile connection experience. With a battery life of 150 hours, the R1S is designed for small- to medium-sized hands, measuring 120.6 mm × 64.1 mm × 37.6 mm with a symmetrical shape.

The R1S incorporates the Xhero AI sensor and HiSilicon BS20 MCU, though it reduces the refresh rate to 1 kHz. It uses Huano Blue Shell White Dot mechanical switches, providing a familiar tactile experience. Despite these enhancements, VXE has had to make some compromises to achieve the low price point. The shell, while matte, lacks a coating, which may cause it to become shiny over time. Additionally, the color options are limited to black and white, unlike its more colorful R1 series counterparts. The R1S is fully customizable and remappable on Windows, making it a versatile option for budget-conscious gamers.

VXE's strategy of offering affordable, lightweight alternatives to high-end gaming mice continues to resonate with the market. The Dragonfly R1S stands out as the new low-end variant of the R1 series, providing essential gaming features without breaking the bank. This launch is likely to appeal to gamers looking for a cost-effective yet capable mouse. As the gaming peripherals market becomes increasingly competitive, VXE's focus on affordability and functionality positions the R1S as a strong contender in the budget gaming mouse segment.

The introduction of the R1S is part of a broader trend in the gaming peripherals industry where manufacturers are focusing on delivering high performance at accessible price points. This move by VXE could set a new benchmark for what can be achieved at such an affordable price, potentially influencing other brands to follow suit. The success of the R1S will depend on its performance and user reception, but it certainly marks a significant effort by VXE to expand its reach in the gaming mouse market.
