Valve's latest SteamOS 3.8.26 beta update focuses on bug fixes and performance improvements for both desktop and gaming modes. The update addresses a performance degradation issue that occurred when composition was required, particularly with FSR enabled. Desktop Mode also receives fixes for Firefox freezing and a resolution issue that allowed displays below 640x480, which was unreadable.

Additionally, the beta resolves SD card-related bugs on the Steam Deck and MSI Claw, along with Bluetooth instability with the Nintendo Switch Pro controller. A regression from the previous beta that affected Wi-Fi connectivity on the MSI Claw A1M is also fixed. Battery display issues on Lenovo Legion Go models are corrected, and a bug where the MSI Claw would freeze on resume if an SD card was present during suspend and resume is resolved.

These updates may seem minor, but ensuring core features work properly is crucial for SteamOS to compete with Windows, which dominates due to its broad hardware and game support. The full changelog includes these fixes, with Valve continuing to polish the experience for handheld gaming devices.
