Ride 6's Track Design: Drone Scans & Creative Circuits

Launching tomorrow, Milestone's motorcycle simulator Ride 6 delivers over 40 tracks through a dual strategy. The game meticulously reconstructs famous real-world circuits while inventing entirely new fictional layouts. Game Director Paolo Bertoni reveals the extensive process behind each approach, promising a deep celebration of motorcycling culture for both simulation enthusiasts and arcade fans.

For authentic circuits, the team uses drone photogrammetry, capturing 2,000 to 2,500 images per track. They establish 20-25 Ground Control Points with high-precision GPS, linking coordinates to every photo. This generates point clouds with a margin of error of just 2.5 cm, faithfully mapping every detail from curbs to grandstands for a true-to-life foundation.

Fictional tracks begin with a desired rider experience and bike type. Some, like the off-road-focused Kapadokya Rally, are fast and flowing for newcomers. Others weave through tight, technical forests to amplify speed perception for veterans. Designers then test layouts in empty space strips before adding visual reference points like signs or houses to guide players.

This meticulous blend of laser-scanned reality and imaginative engineering ensures Ride 6 offers something for every rider. The result is a game that respects the sport's history while pushing creative boundaries, providing both pinpoint authenticity and purpose-built racing challenges from day one.
