Phison and Intel Team Up to Expand Local AI Capabilities on AI PC Platforms

Phison Electronics announced a partnership with Intel to bring larger AI workloads to Intel's AI PC platforms. The collaboration pairs Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors with Phison's Pascari aiDAPTIV memory extension technology, enabling more sophisticated local AI applications than current systems typically support.

aiDAPTIV addresses memory constraints by extending effective AI working memory across system DRAM and high-performance NAND flash. This approach reduces the DRAM requirements for local AI workloads while supporting features like KV cache reuse. Many AI PCs struggle with memory limitations when running advanced models, particularly Mixture-of-Experts architectures that demand substantial resources.

Testing demonstrated significant improvements: aiDAPTIV allowed a 26B-parameter model to run on a system with just 16GB of DRAM, compared to 32GB required without the technology. The solution supports longer-running AI sessions, agentic workflows, and private data processing while reducing cloud dependency.

At Computex, Phison will demonstrate aiDAPTIV-enabled systems running MoE models that would normally exceed available memory. Partnerships with ASUS, MSI, and Acer will showcase real-world applications from companies like Ollama and LLMWare. This collaboration could help OEMs deliver more capable local AI without expensive memory configurations.
