NZXT H2 Flow PCIe Riser Safety: No More Fire Risk Like H1

NZXT has addressed the PCIe riser safety concerns that plagued its H1 mini ITX case with the new H2 Flow. The company published a detailed blog post explaining how it redesigned the riser cable to prevent the short circuit and fire risk that led to a recall of the original H1. The issue stemmed from a mounting screw contacting internal power planes on the PCB.

To eliminate this failure mode, NZXT implemented two key safety measures. First, a physical boss or "shoulder" extends into the PCB through-hole to maintain a guaranteed gap between the screw and the board. Second, the PCB design now features grounded traces around the screw hole with external copper screw pads on both sides. These changes create multiple layers of protection against short circuits.

NZXT notes that some early review samples may lack the screw pad, as seen in TechPowerUp's review, but final production units include this feature. The company claims these engineering changes have completely eliminated the failure mode that caused problems with the original H1 chassis, providing peace of mind for H2 Flow buyers.
