Microsoft's 80 Copilot Products Mark Major Branding Shift

Microsoft has quietly amassed an impressive 80 Copilot products, applications, and services across its entire ecosystem. This represents the biggest branding overhaul in Microsoft's history, as the company traditionally distinguished products with unique features and names rather than a unified AI-focused approach. The push comes as Microsoft addresses recent "Microslop" criticism online regarding forced AI integration.

The Copilot branding spans consumer and business chatbots, developer tools, desktop applications, enterprise platforms, and hardware, with Copilot+ PCs featuring a dedicated Copilot key. However, this aggressive branding has backfired, with Microsoft's ecosystem popularity at an all-time low, particularly among PC users who interact daily with Windows 11 and Microsoft 365 applications.

In response to the criticism, Microsoft plans to slow the Copilot push and return to core principles that made Windows popular. Updates from April onward will focus on stability, bug fixes, and reduced Copilot emphasis, though the company won't abandon its AI investments entirely. Microsoft has committed substantial resources to this marketing push that enabled the creation of its 80 Copilot variants.
