Microsoft Rushes Windows 11 Sign-In Fix

Microsoft has released the KB5085516 emergency patch to resolve sign-in issues affecting the Windows 11 March update. The update caused authentication failures across multiple Microsoft applications including Teams, OneDrive, Edge, Excel, Word, and Microsoft 365 Copilot. Users on Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2 with build 26100.8037 experienced persistent Microsoft account sign-in problems that disrupted productivity workflows.

The problem occurred when devices entered a specific network connectivity state that the March update couldn't handle properly, causing apps to incorrectly flag devices as offline. Microsoft initially suggested simple restarts, but the connectivity issue would inevitably return, creating a frustrating cycle of repeated sign-in errors for users attempting to access their cloud services.

With the KB5085516 update now rolling out for builds 26200.8039 and 26100.8039, Microsoft claims no known issues remain. Users can safely reapply the update without fear of recurring authentication problems, though the company hasn't explained what caused the initial networking flaw in the March release.
