DLSS 5 Faces Skepticism From Gamers

NVIDIA's DLSS 5 technology, positioned as the first real-time neural rendering for photorealistic game textures, faces skepticism from the gaming community. A TechPowerUp poll of nearly 20,000 gamers revealed 58% prefer no AI alterations to their favorite titles, wanting to preserve original artistic vision without changes to lighting or character faces.

DLSS 5 processes 2D frames and motion vectors through generative AI, aiming to respect developers' original intent rather than altering core geometry. The poll shows 28% remain undecided, waiting for real-world results in AAA titles, while 8.1% believe the technology already improves visuals. Only 6.4% would accept changes for performance gains.

Game studios without distinct artistic styles may benefit from neural rendering, especially those using Unreal Engine 5. However, there's concern that widespread adoption could lead to monotonous visuals across titles. NVIDIA expects to launch DLSS 5 this fall, having processed feedback to address gamer concerns before release.
