AMD's Linux kernel update provides technical backing for PlayStation 6 Portable rumors. A patch from engineer Vishal Badole adds support for Zen 6 LP low-power cores, validating leaked specifications about Sony's upcoming handheld gaming device.

The kernel patch introduces a new CPU classification system that identifies low-power cores through CPUID Fn0x80000026 EBX. Value 2 specifically marks cores designed for minimal power consumption during background or idle workloads, matching the rumored PS6 Portable configuration.

This represents AMD's first departure from its current heterogeneous design featuring Zen 5c and Zen 5 cores. Previous leaks suggested the Canis APU would power the PS6 Portable with four Zen 6c cores and two Zen 6 LP cores for optimal battery life.

While the technical evidence supports the handheld rumors, AMD's kernel additions don't guarantee product launches. The gaming hardware landscape remains volatile, and Sony has yet to officially confirm its portable gaming device plans.
