AMD and Anthropic have announced a strategic partnership to deploy up to 2 gigawatts of AMD Instinct MI450 Series GPUs in AMD Helios rackscale solutions. The initial deployment of one gigawatt is slated for the first half of 2027. This collaboration addresses the escalating demand for AI training and inference capacity, driven by Anthropic's growing user base for its AI model, Claude.

Anthropic will utilize AMD Helios rackscale solutions, featuring AMD Instinct MI455X GPUs, alongside AMD EPYC "Venice" CPUs, AMD Pensando networking, and AMD ROCm software. These solutions are engineered for next-generation AI workloads, building on Anthropic's existing use of AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs. The partnership also includes a multiyear engineering collaboration focused on using Claude to enhance AMD's software development, particularly for optimizing workloads and accelerating ROCm software.

AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su highlighted the significance of the gigawatt-scale deployment, stating it combines Anthropic's AI leadership with AMD's high-performance computing to accelerate AI adoption. Tom Brown, Anthropic's Chief Compute Officer, emphasized the importance of compute access for Claude's advancement and meeting customer demand, noting the benefits of optimizing workloads across diverse hardware. This partnership aims to establish a robust foundation for future AI infrastructure development.

In addition to the hardware deployment and engineering collaboration, AMD has also committed to a future strategic equity investment of up to $5 billion in Anthropic.
