Storage provider ADATA Technology dropped the URBAN TAPSAFE External SSD, kicking off its new URBAN series aimed squarely at mobile users needing flexible, fast storage. This compact drive integrates high-speed transfers with an innovative security feature designed for users constantly on the move. Its lightweight form factor makes it an easy companion for creators and professionals alike.

Security friction is the primary target for removal here. The drive employs an NFC tap unlock mechanism managed via a companion app, effectively turning a user's smartphone into a hardware key, bypassing traditional passwords. Furthermore, the device supports up to nine users, allowing administrators to assign granular 'Read-Only' or 'Read/Write' access permissions for shared workflows.

Performance specs put the TAPSAFE in strong contention, boasting read/write speeds up to 1,900 MB/s thanks to its USB 3.2 Gen 2 x2 interface, perfect for heavy 4K editing tasks. ADATA also built in sustainability, crafting the chassis from 50% post-consumer recycled plastic, while offering capacities up to 2000 GB.

Adding practical utility for videographers, the drive features an integrated clip-on design that attaches directly to camera cages, reducing mounting clutter. Users can also swap magnetic decorative covers for personalization or data categorization, making this more than just a utilitarian box of flash memory.
