President Trump is expected to nominate Heidi Overton as the next commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, according to multiple media reports. Overton currently serves as the deputy director of the White House Domestic Policy Council, where she has helped shape health policies during Trump’s second term.

Overton holds a medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and earned a doctoral degree in clinical investigation from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. While at Johns Hopkins, she worked with Marty Makary, the former FDA commissioner who was removed by Trump amid various controversies. She previously served as a staunch defender of Makary during his tenure.

Her policy positions have drawn attention, particularly her opposition to abortion and abortion pills, which she has described as dangerous despite extensive data showing their safety. These views align with conservative efforts to restrict access to abortion medications through the FDA. Overton’s nomination is also expected to impact the relationship with the Make America Healthy Again movement, led by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., with whom her vaccine skepticism may find common ground.
