Tesla lawsuit setback in California discrimination case

Tesla failed to dismiss a racial discrimination lawsuit in California, with a judge denying the company's motion for summary judgment. The California Civil Rights Department accused Tesla of segregating Black workers, paying them less, and retaliating against complaints. Judge Peter Bork ruled the automaker didn't present undisputed evidence to defeat these claims.

The allegations include racial harassment, discriminatory assignments, and retaliation. Evidence shows that all 240 plaintiffs claimed hearing the n-word at the Fremont factory, while 99 of 228 Tesla workers admitted the same. Tesla argued its policies prevented discrimination, but Bork noted written policies alone don't prove no harassment occurred.

The judge viewed all evidence in favor of the plaintiff and resolved ambiguities against Tesla. This case represents one of the largest workplace discrimination lawsuits against a major tech company. The trial is scheduled for July, potentially exposing Tesla to significant liability if the allegations are proven true.
