Figure AI's Humanoid Robots Go Viral in 48-Hour Package Sorting Livestream

Figure AI's week-long livestream of humanoid robots sorting packages captured massive online attention, with viewers naming the machines and betting on their endurance. The company deployed its Figure 03 robots running the Helix 02 neural network system, achieving what CEO Brett Adcock claimed was 48 hours of nonstop autonomous operation.

The viral demo featured robots inspecting barcodes on packages and placing them on conveyor belts, though they moved slower than human competitor Aimé Gérard. In a head-to-head competition, Gérard sorted 12,924 packages versus the robots' 12,732 packages, averaging 2.79 seconds per package compared to the robots' 2.83 seconds.

Despite the close performance gap, questions arose about true autonomy since no independent verification occurred. The company has raised nearly $2 billion from investors including Microsoft and Nvidia, with previous BMW factory deployments showing real-world potential. This demonstration, while impressive for repetitive tasks, reveals how far humanoid robots still need to advance for general-purpose work.

The spectacle highlights both remarkable progress and persistent limitations in commercial robotics, where narrow demonstrations can appear more capable than they truly are in varied environments.
