Shohei Ohtani's dominance continued on the mound Wednesday as he fanned eight over seven scoreless innings, securing a 4-0 victory for his club against the Giants, even as he remained sidelined offensively during his current hitting slump. The Mets' injury woes deepened significantly when catcher Francisco Alvarez sustained a meniscus tear in his right knee, requiring surgery that manager Carlos Mendoza projects will sideline the backstop for six to eight weeks. This roster instability follows a surprising mid-May transaction where Cleveland acquired an elite defensive catcher from San Francisco, prompting immediate debate over which organization secured the superior end of the swap.
