Apple Hardware

Apple is reportedly holding a product launch event on October 13, according to Mark Gurman, with a new Apple TV 4K expected to debut next week featuring two major upgrades. In the meantime, Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days are already delivering steep discounts: the M6 Mac mini is up to $150 off, and the Mac Studio is seeing cuts as high as $200. AirPods Max 2 have dropped to $429 in all colors, while the AirPods Pro 3 are also seeing significant markdowns. MacBook Air models are $200 off, and the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 have hit new all-time lows, with prices starting at $199 for the Apple Watch SE.

A leaker on Weibo claims the iPad is set to gain significantly thinner bezels in an upcoming redesign. Apple has also released a MagSafe 3 Charging Cable firmware update, the first for the accessory since February 2023. In a review, the Mac mini M5 Pro is described as a tiny upgrade with a big price hike, offering serious performance but with a notable caveat.

Software & Services

Apple has quietly tripled the iCloud Mail alias limit to nine, and iCloud+ now supports up to 10 custom email domain addresses per subscriber. The Apple One Family and Premier plans have gone up in price in several European countries. A new open-source tool called Remove Mac AI is helping users reclaim over 12GB of storage by removing Apple Intelligence components from their Macs.

macOS 27 has fixed the most annoying problem for third-party HDR displays, allowing scaled resolutions to work correctly with high dynamic range. The OCLP project has released version 300 RC, which adds macOS Tahoe support for older Macs. Apple is also tightening Full Disk Access controls after issues with Meta’s Muse app, and Focus Modes in iOS 27 have been adapted for the iPhone Duo, making them easier to toggle from the Lock Screen.

Steve Jobs Legacy

Apple CEO John Ternus and former CEO Tim Cook have both posted tributes marking the 15th anniversary of Steve Jobs’ passing. Ternus wrote a separate post celebrating Jobs’ legacy, and a reflection piece argues that nobody is “The Next Steve Jobs” 15 years after his death. Apple Insider has also published a retrospective exploring what Jobs’ legacy means today. A separate analysis notes that Ternus and Cook took opposite approaches to design, and both were right in their own ways.

Apple TV & Hiring

A new Apple TV+ documentary called All of Us shows how iPads enable inclusive learning in a unique school setting. Apple is also hiring an elite barista for its iCup team in Cupertino for the first time in about 10 years.

iPhone Upgrades & Deals

A buyer’s guide compares the iPhone 13 Pro vs. iPhone 18 Pro, detailing the major upgrades including the A19 chip, improved camera system, and new design. Competing deals from Sony, Best Buy, and Walmart are also available during Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days event.
