Wyndham Clark held off a surge from Sam Burns and No.1 Scottie Scheffler to claim an Open victory at Shinnecock Hills. After opening with a six‑shot lead, Clark saw it shrink to a single stroke as Burns posted a three‑under 67. Scheffler remained in contention, hoping to complete the career Grand Slam. The win marks Clark’s second in years, after his 2023 PGA Championship triumph.

Clark’s front‑nine 38 left him vulnerable, but a 25‑foot birdie on the 16th restored a two‑stroke edge. A three‑putt bogey at 17 and another at 18 forced a final‑round 73, yet he secured the $4.5m prize. Burns, seven back early, rallied to finish just one shot behind, delivering the tournament’s closest comeback. His composure under pressure highlighted his growing reputation on the tour.

Tom Kim posted a level‑par 70 to take third, the only other player under par. Scheffler’s mixed birdies and three bogeys left him two strokes off the lead on his 30th birthday. The reshuffle reinforces Clark’s climb toward the world No.1 spot, while the PGA Tour now heads to the Travelers Championship.
