Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has signaled that future on-track battles between Kimi Antonelli and George Russell could be dialed back following their intense Canadian Grand Prix duel. The pair delivered thrilling entertainment in Montreal, with Antonelli securing victory while Russell retired due to a power unit failure after 30 laps.

The tension carried over from Saturday's Sprint race, where Antonelli expressed frustration with Russell's defensive driving. Their wheel-to-wheel action included several close calls, including contact at the final chicane that Wolff described as potentially dangerous. The Mercedes boss acknowledged the spectacle value but emphasized the risk of double DNFs from minor errors.

Wolff noted that when the teammates weren't battling, Mercedes pulled away from rivals at half a second per lap, but fighting cost them a full second to the competition. With 43 points separating the drivers after five rounds, both remain in championship contention heading to Monaco. The team may impose restrictions if similar situations threaten overall results.

Despite the internal competition, Wolff praised both drivers for racing like championship contenders, though he criticized excessive radio emotion. The Monaco Grand Prix marks the start of F1's European summer swing, where strategic team decisions could prove decisive.
