Alan King's veteran Edwardstone defied his years to win the bet365 Celebration Chase at Sandown, claiming the fourth Grade One of his distinguished career at 11-1. Tom Cannon produced a perfectly timed ride up the famous hill, edging past JPR One after the final fence to deliver what King called one of his most emotional victories. The nine-year-old hadn't scored at the highest level since landing the Tingle Creek at Sandown in December 2022.

Cannon revealed the race worked out perfectly, with the Pond Fence move关键的转弯 providing the winning advantage. King expressed his delight, stating the Plumpton race had sharpened the horse beautifully and transformed him completely. The day carried bittersweet tones as Dan Skelton was crowned champion trainer for the first time, becoming the first man to break through the £5m prize-money barrier.

However, tragedy struck when Thistle Ask, Skelton's star performer, sustained a fatal injury during the race, with Sandown confirming the horse was humanely euthanised. Edwardstone's victory provided the perfect finale to the season, with the veteran horse delivering a reminder of his enduringclass at the track where he remains a crowd favourite.
