Edward Greatrex secured his biggest win in 11 years as Urban Lion edged out Rogue Diplomat by a nose in the William Hill Lincoln at Doncaster. The 9/1 shot prevailed in a photo finish after a steadily-run race where Botanical set the early pace. Greatrex's victory aided trainer Jack Channon's big double on the opening day of the Flat turf season.

Channon had already triumphed in the Spring Mile with Mezcala before Urban Lion's dramatic success. The trainer admitted he thought they were beaten but praised Greatrex for getting his head down on the line. Urban Lion will now target more big handicaps and black-type races, with Channon confirming the horse "wants those big, straight miles."

Elsewhere, Docklands justified odds-on favouritism to win the William Hill Doncaster Mile Stakes by one-and-a-half lengths, while Aramram took the Cammidge Trophy for Richard Hannon. Hannon also won the Brocklesby with A Bear Affair, paying tribute to late trainer Bill Turner. Karl Burke's High Storm broke his maiden status in the concluding novice event.
