UEFA has declared it will boycott all FIFA tournaments if Gianni Infantino proceeds with plans to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors. This decision was made during an emergency meeting of UEFA's 55 member associations.

UEFA stated, "We unanimously and unequivocally reject FIFA's proposal to transfer ownership interests in the World Cup and other FIFA competitions to private investors." A boycott by UEFA would likely scuttle Infantino's proposal, as European teams are crucial to the tournament's appeal. The earliest major tournament UEFA could boycott is the 2027 Women's World Cup.

FIFA proposed creating FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) to sell minority stakes, potentially raising $4.2 billion and valuing FFE at around $20 billion. UEFA condemned the secrecy and lack of consultation, calling it a "profound failure of leadership." Other bodies, including the Scottish FA and the Premier League, have also expressed strong opposition, emphasizing that "The World Cup is not for sale."
