England's Matthew Fitzpatrick carded a six-under 64 to lead a group of six players one shot off the first-round lead at the Travelers Championship. World No 1 Scottie Scheffler joined the chase with a flawless 64, while compatriots Justin Rose and Aaron Rai also got off to strong starts at TPC River Highlands.

Wyndham Clark's momentum from his recent US Open victory was halted by a triple bogey at the par-four 12th. The 32-year-old dropped a seven after an errant tee shot led to a drop and bunker, finishing with a two-under 68. Despite birdies at six, 13, 15 and 17, Clark sits five shots back from leader Eric Cole.

Fitzpatrick, who has won three times in 2026, navigated TPC River Highlands with seven birdies and one bogey, missing just one fairway. The former US Open champion credited his new driver for the strong round, saying he took advantage of the scoring holes. Scheffler's 64 marked his lowest opening round since January.

Clark reflected that one bad swing cost him a five-under round, leaving him frustrated despite feeling great over his game. Leader Eric Cole carded a blemish-free seven-under 63, including an eagle at 13, to open a comfortable buffer atop the leaderboard.
