St Johnstone survived a seven-goal thriller to defeat Kilmarnack 4-3 on their Scottish Premiership return at home.

The hosts twice surrendered leads before Simo Valakari's tactical substitutions proved decisive. Trailing 3-2, Valakari introduced Louis Lloyd, whose first touch forced an own goal from Michael Schjonning-Larsen.

Kai Fotheringham then sealed victory with the first top-flight goal of his career, capping a dramatic comeback.

Fotheringham and Fowler exchanged passes before the former Dundee United attacker shifted to his right foot, dispatched Bailey Rice, and fired low past Max Stryjek.

Valakari praised his team's character, stating: "I never doubted the character of my players." He added that the match tested their resilience and that "all we have from this match is three points."
