Ross Smith secured his seventh career Players Championship title with a dominant 8-2 victory over Chris Dobey in Leicester on Tuesday. The 37-year-old Englishman averaged over 95 throughout his seven-match run, including impressive wins over Karel Sedlacek and Dave Chisnall in the semi-finals and quarter-finals.

Smith's path to victory included earlier triumphs against Niko Springer, Michael Smith, Cor Dekker, and Justin Hood, with a tournament-high average of 104.39 in the final. While Smith's performance was clinical, Dobey stole the spotlight earlier in the day by hitting a nine-darter against Ricky Evans in the second round, setting up a perfect first leg in that match.

Despite his earlier brilliance, Dobey couldn't maintain momentum in the final, missing 13 darts at double in a disappointing performance. The tournament saw several Premier League Darts stars fall early, with top seed Gerwyn Price eliminated 6-2 by Adam Lipscombe in the opening round. Luke Littler, Luke Humphries, Michael van Gerwen, and Stephen Bunting opted not to enter this week's events in Leicester.
