Former Monaco head coach Sebastien Pocognoli is the frontrunner to take the Scotland men's national team job, with the SFA’s leading candidate set to replace Steve Clarke. The 39‑year‑old, who guided Union Saint‑Gilloise to Belgium’s league title last season, is the most discussed name.

Pocognoli is a free agent after departing Monaco in June. His playing career included spells at West Brom, Brighton and a title‑winning stint with AZ Alkmaar in 2009. He has also managed Belgian clubs Genk and Standard Liège, and led the national U‑16 and U‑18 sides.

His coaching résumé now boasts a Belgian league triumph, Belgian Coach of the Year in 2025, and the first Champions League matches for Union Saint‑Gilloise. The move from USG to Monaco last year saw him secure European qualification before his June exit.

With Scotland’s first World Cup since 1998 behind Clarke and a group‑stage exit at the 2022 tournament, the national side seeks fresh leadership. Pocognoli’s experience across senior and youth levels makes him a logical, if ambitious, choice.
