Scotland opened Nations Championship with a 47-38 win in Córdoba, scoring seven tries to overcome a Pumas side ranked two places higher. Missing fly‑half Finn Russell, the Scots posted three first‑half scores through captain Sione Tuipulotu, prop Pierre Schoeman and centre Rory Hutchinson, taking a 19‑10 lead at the break.

In the second half Gregor Brown, Scott Cummings, debutant Gregor Hiddlestone and Kyle Rowe added four more scores, while Fergus Burke and Tom Jordan each slotted three conversions. Argentina answered with tries from Joaquin Oviedo, Rodrigo Isgro, Thomas Rapetti and late scores by Lucio Cinti and Agustin Moyano, but Scotland held on despite playing with 14 men for a spell.

The victory lifts Gregor Townsend’s side to four wins from six Tests this year and sets up a showdown with South Africa in Pretoria next weekend. A high‑scoring display underscores Scotland’s attacking depth and suggests they can compete with top‑tier nations, while Argentina remain in contention but must tighten defence to avoid similar shootouts.

Other opening fixtures saw New Zealand edge France 34‑32, Japan defeat Italy 27‑10, Wales beat Fiji 39‑24 and South Africa thrash England 45‑21. The twelve‑team Nations Championship runs in two conferences, with northern teams travelling south in July and returning north in November, culminating in a London final to crown the world’s best side.
