George Russell seized the top spot in the final practice session at the Red Bull Ring with a late surge. His lap of 1:07.096s put him 0.038s ahead of team-mate Kimi Antonelli. After dominating Friday's sessions, the championship leader finally faced real pressure as Russell and Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton found their rhythm late in the day.

Antonelli currently holds a 41 point lead over Hamilton in the standings. The 19-year-old Italian started the season with five straight wins, but Hamilton recently broke that streak with a victory in Barcelona. This shift in momentum suggests the gap between the championship leader and his closest rivals is shrinking just before qualifying.

McLaren's Oscar Piastri finished fourth, nearly a quarter of a second off the pace, while Max Verstappen sat in sixth. Charles Leclerc struggled again, trailing Hamilton by over three tenths. Red Bull's Isack Hadjar finished eighth, leaving Racing Bulls drivers Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad to round out the top 10.

Russell's late pace shift creates a tight battle for pole position. Mercedes now holds the momentum over Ferrari and Red Bull heading into the official qualifying session on Saturday June 27.
