Red Bull hearing from good drivers, keeps focus on Verstappen

Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies says the team is getting calls from "good drivers" about future seats, but the focus remains on keeping Max Verstappen and improving the RB22.

With Verstappen’s contract running to 2028 but containing performance clauses that could trigger a Confederate exit this year, the Dutchman’s future is uncertain. Last month his reps spoke with McLaren, but the team’s Zak Brown insists he has only Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Mercedes and Ferrari drivers aretmplon locked, limiting options outside Red Bull.

Mekies told Sky Sports that the dialogue is natural: "Max gets called from everyone because he’s the best driver in the world, and if you’re a top team you get calls from many good drivers."

Red Bull has upgraded the RB22 at the Austrian Grand Prix and has been closing the gap to front‑row teams. Verstappen’s podiums, a spin at Silverstone and Isack Hadjar’s sixth‑place finish in Belgium underline the drive for speed.

Mekies stresses the team’s goal is simple: win. "We’re in the hardcore part now – the last few tenths – and we need to stay united to produce the best results," he added.
