JT Poston capitalized on tricky conditions at Muirfield Village to seize a one-shot lead at the Memorial Tournament. The world's top two players, Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler, both found themselves 10 strokes behind after struggling with the fast putting surfaces and challenging winds.

Poston's seven-under 65 proved four shots better than any other competitor. McIlroy carded a 74 with three bogeys and a double-bogey, while Scheffler admitted he "could have shot 90" after his level-par 72. The Northern Irishman's double-bogey at the 13th came after taking five shots from just 112 yards.

First-round leader Tommy Fleetwood dropped to fourth after a 73. Scheffler's quest to win for a third successive year continues, though he faces an uphill battle. Aaron Rai and Alex Fitzpatrick share ninth at one under, while Shane Lowry's 73 featured five birdies but also two double bogeys.
