Wessel Nijman secured his fourth ranking title of 2026 by dominating the final at Players Championship 10 in Wigan. The Dutchman overpowered former Grand Slam champion Scott Waites in the showpiece, winning convincingly by an 8-2 scoreline. This victory immediately propelled Nijman back into the top position on the Players Championship rankings, snatching the lead from Chris Dobey.

Nijman’s run to the title was marked by exceptional scoring consistency throughout the day at the Robin Park Tennis Centre. He posted averages nearing 110 during earlier rounds, including a 109.71 against Beau Greaves in the quarters. Nijman confirmed afterward that this event felt like his best floor performance of the year so far, citing multiple high averages.

His overall average in the final settled at 101.34, a measure of his continued imperious form in the floor events. Nijman admitted earlier this year that reaching the top 16 on the PDC Werner Rankings Ladder was his primary objective for the season. Winning this latest title aids that push considerably, moving him to 18th on the ladder.

Beau Greaves also deserves mention, managing back-to-back quarter-final appearances following victories over Martin Schindler and Cameron Menzies. Nijman, however, remains focused on maintaining this momentum heading into the European Darts Grand Prix this weekend.
