Martin Brundle criticized Lando Norris's attempted overtake on Oscar Piastri as 'not smart' during the Singapore Grand Prix Sprint's final lap. Norris tried to pass up the inside of Turn 5 on the Marina Bay Street Circuit, resulting in a crash where Piastri's rear-right tire was struck by Norris's front-left, spinning Piastri around.
Brundle stated McLaren 'will be furious' about the incident, noting that whether finishing fourth or fifth makes no difference to the team. The collision cost McLaren nine points, reducing their lead over Red Bull to 11 points in the constructors' standings.
Norris apologized over team radio but insisted the move was on, claiming he was fully alongside when he ran out of space at the apex. Piastri played down the incident, saying he wasn't 'that bothered' due to the Sprint format.
Both drivers were summoned for a stewards' hearing following the investigation into the incident.
