Maro Itoje Denies England Squad Rift After Italy Dispute

Maro Itoje has dismissed suggestions of a rift in the England squad following an on-field disagreement with fly-half Fin Smith during their Six Nations defeat to Italy. The incident occurred early in the second half at the Stadio Olimpico, with Itoje insisting there is 'no crack' in the leadership group. The British and Irish Lions skipper was involved in a heated exchange over tactical decisions.

Itoje explained that the debate centred on whether to take a penalty kick or set up an attacking line-out, culminating in him telling Smith, 'Don't argue with me. Take the three.' The Saracens second row maintains the conversation was blown out of proportion due to England's 23-18 loss. 'When you have good relationships with people you're able to have those sorts of conversations and are able to move on from it pretty quickly,' he said.

The incident marked the first time Itoje has raised his voice on the field in such a manner, though he downplayed the significance. 'I actually think it's a good thing that people in the team feel they can express a view,' he added. England face France in Paris on Saturday, aiming to end their three-Test losing run.
