Cifuentes replaced Ruud van Nistelrooy in June, signing a three-year deal from QPR for a £500,000 compensation fee. His project was hampered by tight finances and the looming threat of a points deduction for alleged PSR breaches, preventing a turnaround in the club's fortunes after relegation.
