Germany have appointed Jurgen Klopp as new head coach on a contract running until the 2030 World Cup, replacing Julian Nagelsmann who resigned after a disappointing World Cup exit. The 59-year-old returns to management after leaving Liverpool in 2024 because he was "running out of energy," having won six trophies in nine years.

Klopp warned he would walk away if he and his family are treated inappropriately, stating this role is the pinnacle of his career. He emphasized the need for adjusted expectations, saying his appointment doesn't guarantee success: "We want to play like Germany, do it the German way but very intense." He acknowledged Germany currently have 11 teams ranked above them.

His first match is against the Netherlands on September 24 in the Nations League. Former Liverpool assistants Pep Lijnders and Peter Krawietz join the coaching staff alongside Sven Bender. Per Mertesacker will become sporting director in January, replacing Andreas Rettig.
