The race was severely impacted by unexpectedly soft ground, reducing the field from 13 declared runners to just three finishers after five horses were withdrawn beforehand.

Early leader Some Scope built a substantial advantage, stretching the field. Only the 5-1 shot, ridden by jockey Richie McLernon, could mount a challenge. McLernon executed a perfectly timed patient ride to overhaul the leader on the testing Town Moor terrain, pulling away dramatically on the home turn.
