IPL 2026 Fixtures: RCB vs SRH Opens Season Amid Safety Concerns

The Indian Premier League has unveiled the opening fortnight of its 2026 schedule, with defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru facing Sunrisers Hyderabad in the tournament opener at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 28. The initial fixtures run through April 12 across 10 venues, though the full schedule awaits state election dates.

This announcement comes with heightened scrutiny following last year's tragic incident at the same stadium, where 11 fans died during post-match celebrations. The Karnataka government has mandated that all matches at the venue require clearance from an expert committee, with a stadium inspection and mock demonstration scheduled for March 13. The delay in releasing the complete schedule stems from three states holding assembly elections during the tournament period.

The opening fortnight features four double-headers, including a marquee April 4 clash between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians followed by Gujarat Titans versus Rajasthan Royals. Notably, Rajasthan Royals will begin their home campaign in Guwahati rather than Jaipur, while Punjab Kings will play early home fixtures in New Chandigarh. With 20 matches confirmed across major cricket centers, the league faces the dual challenge of delivering exciting cricket while ensuring enhanced safety protocols at venues.
