Defending Premier League Darts champion Luke Humphries faces a genuine threat of missing the Play-Offs at London's O2 after a difficult run of form. Sitting in seventh place with just 11 points across 10 weeks, Humphries is still hunting for his maiden nightly victory this season. His recent struggles continued with a narrow 6-5 defeat to league leader Jonny Clayton in Brighton last week.

His woes extended outside the Premier League when he suffered a last-16 exit at Player Championship 9 in Wigan on Monday, losing to eventual winner Chris Dobey. Michael van Gerwen currently holds the fourth Play-Off spot with 16 points, leaving the world No 2 needing to close a five-point gap with time quickly expiring on the calendar.

Despite the mounting pressure, Humphries insists he is not overly concerned about defending his title, claiming his overall average this year remains strong. He suggests his timing might just be slightly off, preventing him from securing the necessary nightly wins required for qualification. The focus now shifts to his upcoming clash against home favourite Gian van Veen in Rotterdam.

Commentator Chris Murphy suggested panic stations are not yet warranted, but stressed Humphries must secure back-to-back nightly wins soon to catapult himself into contention. For the Cheshire thrower, qualification hinges on converting his solid baseline form into the match victories that earn progression points.
