Luke Humphries believes he's peaking at the perfect moment as he attempts to defend his Premier League Darts title at the O2 on Thursday. The world number one told Sky Sports he's been playing his best darts for three weeks and feels his chances of retaining the trophy are significantly higher than they were earlier in the season.

The reigning champion spoke about timing his run perfectly: "It's perfect timing. I always say it's a marathon not a sprint and I managed to do that in the end." Humphries admitted he didn't burst out of the blocks but instead bided his time, waiting until the latter stages to find his best form.

The 30-year-old knows what success looks like at this venue, having already lifted the trophy once. "I feel I'm quite lucky to be there in a way, but I can take advantage of that now if I can go and win it," he said. His victory would mark a successful title defense in front of a packed London crowd.
