World No.2 Luke Humphries recovered from an early two‑leg deficit to defeat Jermaine Wattimena 8‑4 in the final of Players Championship 17 in Leicester. The Englishman posted a tournament‑high average of 104.74, sealing his second ProTour title of the year and pocketing the £15,000 winner’s cheque. The victory marked Humphries’ sixth ton‑plus average of the day on the ProTour circuit.

Humphries opened the match down two legs as Wattimena claimed back‑to‑back legs, but responded with a three‑leg surge in 37 darts to lead 3‑2. A five‑visit spell from the Dutchman momentarily narrowed the gap, yet Humphries answered with three more legs, then closed the affair with 16‑ and 14‑dart finishes, sealing the 8‑4 scoreline and showing his composure under pressure.

The win adds to a run that already includes a 112.18 average against Rhys Griffin and three further ton‑plus outings against Yorick Hofkens, Justin Hood and Christian Kist. With his form carrying him into the Premier League Play‑offs at The O2, Humphries now sits firmly in contention for the season’s biggest titles, having proved he can dominate on any stage.
