Gray eyes Hibs derby win to damage Hearts title bid

David Gray insists Hibernian are focused on their own targets ahead of Sunday's Edinburgh derby, but admits derailing Hearts' title hopes would be a welcome bonus. The Hibs head coach knows victory at Easter Road could deal a significant blow to Hearts' bid for a first top-flight championship since 1960.

Hearts head into the post-split fixtures one point clear of Rangers at the summit, while Hibs occupy fifth place chasing a second consecutive top-four finish. "If we can go and get three points this weekend, you'd add the fact that it damages their chances of winning it," Gray told Sky Sports. "Ultimately, it's all about us and what we're trying to do this weekend."

Gray emphasized the derby's significance transcends league positions: "The games are huge, the bragging rights so important." Hibs won the last Easter Road clash 3-2 but lost both games at Tynecastle Park this season. "The two away games were very, very tight," he added. "But we do take confidence for the home leg - we really dominated that game, fully deserved to win."
